Thanks to Madame Samm and Marlene for this blog hop. Also a big thank you to Amy Bradley for the cute design. I jumped at the chance to do this hop.
I thought about it for weeks and could not make up my mind what I wanted to do. I am not a little bit biased, so I needed to say something else. But What?
This past 2 years I have become a Scrap-o-holic! I have made so may things without even going into my stash. Just what is in the scrap bins. Yet this was not speaking to me either.
Then along came my daughter. She has been helping me with baby gifts for her sister. She does all the ironing and cutting and I do all the sewing. Good trade off. What she said clinched it for me. " What about Louie looking over your shoulder"! What? What? Well there it was! Just the right thing. The true statement that made me fly through this creation.
I only started sewing this on the 15th. That is how blocked I was.
Louie is my 3 year old grandson. He has been hanging out in my sewing room since he was 1 1/2 years old. Every day I hear him running across the house saying he is going to play with Grandma. His fascination with what I created is second to none. One of Louie's favorite things is to watch me clean the machine. If he could insert himself into my skin for a better look, he would. He is also a scrap-o-holic. His favorite thing to do with scraps is bury his cars in a "Fabric Cave". I have given him his own table in my 10 x 10 foot room and still he is quite often literally under my armpit watching me sew.
For me and Louie, quilting is Play Time!
**Today Louie decided that he would imitate art by putting a red car and his nose on the sewing table ! **
LOL!
We laughed so hard!

The Quilting Alleycat (that me)
Love your finished project. I wish I could have my little grands here to share playtime with me!!
ReplyDeleteSweet story and cute project!
ReplyDeleteCute wall hanging with the nose on the table. When my niece was little she was the same way, always right there watching every move. I'm wondering what he said when you showed him the finished project.
ReplyDeleteOh, that is adorable! Love the quilts on the wall.
DeleteDon't know why my comment ended up as a reply, but I still love it.
ReplyDeleteAh, our inspiration comes from many corners - or just under our nose. I think it is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteThat is just too blessed cute!! Bet you make top 3!

ReplyDeleteVery creative. Love the story behind your quilt.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure that's not my grandson in your quilt? LOL You sure brought back memories. When I was making his Cars quilt, he loved to come and stand by while I was sewing. Even let him try the sewing machine. That sure made his day! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour version is so sweet! Love it!

Good Morning Aileen...welll I adore your ME and your wee tot too complete with red racing car....you truly inspired many ideas this morning thank you
ReplyDeleteAileen this is just adorable...I love it. I have 2 grandbabies and the eldest(11) always wants to be right there with me working on whatever it is I am doing...particularly his. When I showed him this he asked me "if I could put him on one of mine like this lady did" and of course I said I will try. You did a great job thanks for sharing..
ReplyDeleteAnd who said boys don't like sewing... :)
ReplyDeleteThat is to cute. My four year old grand son spends a lot of time here also. We don't spend so much time in the sewing room as we used to as I have a new sewing machine that has to many buttons that he likes to push. So now we do other things Like making a fort out of my quilting frames. They are fun.
ReplyDeleteI had the same problem with Louie. He is a button pusher and anything with a knob. When he did turn the tension on me and the thread looped I showed him how the thread looped and that I was so sad because I thought my sewing machine was broken and I would never be able to sew again. He has not touched it since. I also unplug it every night just in case! LOL
DeleteSo cute - I love it. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGeoergeous wallhanging and love the story about it!
ReplyDeleteThis is delightful! Louie will have so many wonderful memories of his visits to your sewing room! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLouie is going to be very creative. My 5 year old grandson says he needs a toy sewing machine just like mine, after all I have extras. I then realized he thinks that my featherweight is a toy due to the size and I have 3.
ReplyDeleteSo sweet. My daughter (2.5) loves my sewing space too. Especially when I sew for her.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. You are so lucky to have your grandchild close by. Many of us aren't so lucky.
ReplyDeleteThis may be my favorite one of this bloghop because it reminds me of me and my son! He too has been "quilting" with me since he was about 1 1/2 and loves fabric scraps!
ReplyDeleteMaria
How lucky for you to have your grandson as such a strong part of your life. Great quilt!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! Louie is adorable and I LOVE your cat in your cover photo. I have a tuxedo girl named Emmie who is a frequent "inspector" of all things quilty :)
ReplyDeleteJust too darn cute. I love the bright colors and your story about Louie. Nothing better than sharing life with a grand...says the one who doesn't have one. But I can dream! Congrats on top 3 today. Well done! :-)
ReplyDeleteNow that is too cute. I so love that you preserved a memory in this little quilt. Super great job.
ReplyDeleteWow!! The detail is wonderful...great work with your lady! Thanks for such a great giveaway

ReplyDeleteGood for you- this is wonderful! Love your assistnat!
ReplyDeleteAdorable that Louie is immortalized in this little quilt-let, down to the nose on the table and red car! You never know where inspiration may come to you but how perfect for you and your family!
ReplyDeleteHow precious! Your little project will be a wonderful reminder in years to come of Louie and his fascination with your sewing!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE this! My disabled adult daughter is my "Louie"--she's almost always right there with me, wanting to "help," wanting hugs, wanting to do her own projects! Thanks for including Louie in your project!
ReplyDeleteI so relate to that, as I bought a machine for my grandson when he was 5 - now he plays hockey. - well, he is 16.
ReplyDeleteLove it! It reminds me of my son. He would "sew" using his sister's toy machine while I made stuffed animals.
ReplyDeleteI love your project--grandsons are so much fun. Mine lives in Albuquerque-over 1000 miles away from me--I love when he is around.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt. Great job to remind everyone to let the helper help. I have a helper also.
ReplyDeleteLove the project. It is so bright and cheery. Thanks for sharing and for the opportunity on the draw.

Rosemary B here: a bog.... I meant a BIG. lol :-P

ReplyDeleteYou are very creative. Love what you did.
ReplyDeleteI love your creation Aileen and including your grandson is pure genius,
ReplyDeletesuch a fab wallhanging! How lovely that you get to see your grandson every day, that must be wonderful for your both. My nephew lives at the other end of the country so my parents only see their only grandchild once every month or so, they'd love it if they saw him everyday!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your project. AND for the giveaway. Those fabrics would be so great in a Project Linus quilt. If I win...that's where its going!
ReplyDeleteYou and Louie are sew creative. I love your wallhanging and reading the story about how Louie loves to play with Grandma and her scrap fabric. Thanks for sharing ... :) Pat

ReplyDeleteYour playtime is wonderful. You are so lucky to have a GS that helps you quilt. Won't be long and he will need his own machine. lol
ReplyDeleteLiz
LOVE LOVE IT!! I live to quilt too!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, love the little guy and his car!
ReplyDeletesuper cute
ReplyDeleteLooks like Louie is going to be a quilter. He is at least going to have a great appreciation for quilts. You are a wonderful grandma to include him in your love and let him learn a passion for something. It is obvious where he gets at least a great chunk of his creative gene. The wallhanging is great and the story to with it is even better. Thank you for blogging, sharing, and inspiring us in many ways. You are very generous with your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteAileen-Your "It's all about me," has got to be the cutest one of all. It's wonderful that your grandson spends so much time with you and likes fabric-what a perfect combination. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteToo cute!!! My grandson (just crawling at 8 mo) isn't big enough to be running around and bringing cars to the sewing table yet, but still "helps" me in the sewing room. Isn't it great having grandkids!?!
ReplyDeletegreat idea! love the sewing machine on it. thank's for sharing
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you included your grandson. So cute!
ReplyDeleteMy granddaughter resembles your grandson. She carries around scraps all the time, and has helped make one quilt. When my grandson lived with me, he made a cave between the rolling carts under the cutting table. When I tried pulling them out for the move, they were tied together with selvages.
ReplyDeleteI love your quiltlet. Perfect!
I just love it. My kids always wanted to play with my spools of thread so eventually I collected enough empties with a spool box to keep them happy. Your quilt is perfect and I think Louie will want it posted over his table.
ReplyDeleteAren't kids the funniest, my daughter plays "sewing" all of the time and a lot of the time she says "I'm busy sewing" only 2 1/2 very cute, my son is into it also, so neat. Great job on your "All About Me" and grandson playtime.
