March-ing

This week started at a leisurely pace. No Quilt Show. No pending obligations.  Thank goodness. I work well with deadlines. There are times I need mindless sewing to calm my soul.

I sewed purple 4 patches and my leader - enders were red and white 2"- 4 patches found while cleaning up my sewing room. My goal was to get through those purple scraps and start the green RSC on Sunday.

As it happens I kept getting sucked into the internet. All the free patterns with such great potential!!!! I had to stop myself after I realized I was not sewing and wasting hours with my face in the monitor!!! Stop Already!!!! Oh but the patterns.....
I started a folder for charity quilts aimed at boys . I found so many that I will never be able to make a third of these.  Ah but I can share what I have found in the monthly guild newsletter.

My youngest daughter has 3 boys.  They are 8, 2, and 10 months.  The 2 year old just started sleeping through the night about 7 months ago. The 10 month old does not like to sleep, so she has not slept in about 2 years. I thought she and her husband could use a mental health date. Usually I watch the boys for about 4 hours tops. After I go home I sleep for 2 days. They wear me out. Having 2 of 3 kids under 2 is mentally draining. You just can't blink or there is hell to pay.

I offer my Grandma services. They are thrilled but..... Instead of dinner and a movie, they would like to go to the Renaissance Festival. Oh okay???? I am thinking that 10 month old will run me ragged. He crawls stealthily. I miss the era of bells on kids shoes. Wouldn't help in this case, no shoes yet. So I said I would watch them. Next morning my daughter wants to know if we can go to thrift shop and put together a costume for her to wear. Okay. I pass my neighbor outside who offers up some sheets and a duvet. Free stuff! Yipee!  From the duvet I made this. Took me about 6 hours.  The kids were running around like maniacs! I tried not to look at the piles of toys, crumbs, fabric scraps thrown all over my house. They did clean up before they left and she also made dinner so I could keep sewing. Win Win.

She calls it her Wizard dress. She loves it.  All I needed to hear.

  1. The dress looks great. You'll have to share some links for the quilts for boys. My guild makes them for the battered women's shelter because they often bring their kids with them.

  2. What a quick creation for the Wizard dress. I cannot imagine taking care of 3 little ones and trying to sew too! My hat goes off to you!!

  3. Sounds like you had a very busy day. Love the Wizard dress, that's really cool. Congrats on finding time to stitch each day last week. I'm O for 4 on finishes for the first quarter too. I'm hoping to get just one done at this point. Thanks for linking up last week.
