Sunday Stash and Stitch 9-23-18

Clothing alterations still going on. My granddaughter has outgrown a lot of her clothes. I had made her a My Lil Pony top and shorts. The shorts are gone but the top did not pass the arms in the air test. School does not allow bellies to show. So instead of chucking the top I added a ruffle and some lace to the bottom. While I was at it I made her leggings.

She sent me a nice voicemail saying she loved it. I couldn't ask for more!

Some sewing on charity quilts this week. Our Guild charity sew on Wednesday set a goal to finish 350 quilts by Thanksgiving. We are going strong. So far we have 232+ quilts finished and another 100 tops in kits ready to be finished.

I had a very bad time with my Janome 6600 sewing machine on Saturday and Sunday. I will have to take it in and have it checked. I think it is at least 12 years old. While sewing using the pedal it beeps and hesitates. I am going to test in today using the auto button. I really don't want to upgrade to a new machine. I have about 8 machines in the house but this is the one I use for FMQ. Will let you know what happens.

As for my sewing and stash, my math was so off I had to fix a few posts. Somewhere I started subtracting days instead of adding them in. SMH!
Simplified it a bit so my brain does not explode. LOL!

Sunday Stash & Sewing 9-16-18

This week flew by. I did a lot of sewing but really don't have much to show. Most of this sewing was for the Wednesday Charity sew. I pieced together about 7-9 backs for quilts. I mended clothing, altered clothing and made some napkins for the 2020 Quilt Show Boutique.

I finally decided that I could not work in a mess and cleaned my sewing room. That took forever but I found some things I had forgotten I purchased. Some buried projects. I found places to put the fabric I will be working with for Christmas presents. Mostly flannel PJ. They sew very quickly. What takes the longest is the pockets. All the boys want patch pockets!

Yesterday I re-measured my granddaughter, She has grow quite a bit since I took her measurements 2 months ago. I didn't want to have to alter the clothes after Christmas.

When family finds out your sewing garments

Yesterday was a tough day. My SIL is in a group that do live action role play or LARP for short. Just as with Civil War re-enactment they have to wear period costumes.

I spent 6 1/2 hours altering a pair of LARP pants. The fabric was canvas. Every seam was surged then sewed down. 4 hours to unsew, 2 1/2 hours to resew. He is 5'11" and weighs nothing. He purchased a size large. His waist is 29! I removed 6 1/2 inches of fabric and he still had wiggle room. I told my daughter to feed him Pecan Pie if they are still to big!

This picture is before I went back in the back seam and took out another
2 inches. When I hung them up next to his jeans, I realized they were still to big.

At least they did fit and my daughter said he was parading around the house with them on for quite some time. LOL!

Stash and Stitch 9-9-18

Oops I missed a week. Lots of craziness going on. I did sew everyday but not always quilt related stuff.

I have been trying to work with Double Brush Poly. Making my daughter a dress and some leggings. The first pair of leggings, the crotch split and she couldn't figure out which side was the back! My bad, I forgot to do the back of the leggings with a longer crotch and raise the back. I redrafted the pattern. This time they were spot on! Yay!  Next I took apart a favorite old dress that got stretch to infinity and beyond while she was pregnant. She finally handed it over. Poor little dress. I was able to make a nice dress with same material as leggings. I basted the top and sleeves together then to the skirt area. The original had a tiny little sleeve. I have never drafted a sleeve before so I wanted to be sure it was not a disaster.  I did watch several videos to look at sleeve construction. My sleeve worked beautifully. I made it a 3/4 sleeve. I also made an elastic belt for her as well. I pinned it to my design wall after removing a bazillion threads.

This picture cracks me up. The dress is more a tunic length, about 2 inches above the knee. It just looks so short to me. I was thinking of the mini skirts that I wore in the 70's. They must have looked like a bandaids to our parents. Now the minis are micro minis, about half a bandaid width.

I remember giving one of my employees a rubber band in a box for Christmas. She looked at it for a long time. I said its a new skirt, I picked it out just for you. She stop wearing the very short skirts. I did give her another present but she finally got the point. We were in a booth in the mall and when she sat down the view was not appropriate.
